Boston Police Department deploy robots to scour and blow up bombs

robotsinsider-swat-1Following the tragic bombing in Boston this week, police are on the chase for the suspects. Recovering several unexploded bombs after the incident, the Boston Police Department deployed robots to help scour dangerous areas for suspicious bags and packages that could contain bombs. Joining the bomb squad are military robots such as the one pictured above.

These robots are a part of the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, and police have been using these handy robots to search houses and vehicles. The Boston Police Department even used the robots to blow up mysterious-looking packages, as seen in the image below. So far the robots have done a good job of detecting bombs and eliminating threats within the city. Could this be the start of a new generation of SWAT robots? That , my friend, is very possible.
